23 WEEKS OF WII FIT!

My BMI finally dropped below 29.0 yesterday. My rate of weight loss has slowed somewhat, but I believe now that I'm doing more strength training, I'm putting on more muscle. While I have no scientific proof of this, I base this on these things: 1. my shirts are now tightest (and getting tighter) around the shoulder instead of my gut, 2. I can (barely) fit into my favorite jeans (it's been years), and 3. more and more people are noticing that I've lost weight.

I can see a difference in your "unlikely marathon finish" photo compared to your profile pic too. Awesome job!

I can't believe how much and far you run! I'm nervous at the idea of running a 10k in Sept.

I can understand your apprehension. My three hardest races so far have been my first 10K (my first race + very difficult trail + horrible shape), my first 5K (horrible shape + rain/snow), and my most recent 5K (hot/humid + timing chip fiasco). I didn't feel victorious after these races. I just wanted to leave and forget about them.

The half-marathons and marathons weren't nearly as hard. Mentally, I've always been "up" for the longer races. The 10Ks worry me much more because they're so short and too fast-paced for me. I can't out-sprint people, but I'm stubborn and I can out-last them!

"10Ks [are] so short" LOL I'm just now beginning to think "1.5 miles isn't THAT far"

I was dragged kicking and screaming into running (mentally anyway) about 5 years ago and am just now starting to embrace it.

Well, I'm barely at a running pace (speedsters would even say I'm not at a running pace), but I have a lot of fun talking with nice people during the races. Am I allowed to call what I do "racing"? Yes, but most people think about racing others. I'm simply racing myself and racing the course, pushing my limits.

Each marathon I've run I've met great people who are also more interested in racing themselves than racing others. I don't plan to worry too much about my pace for the next two years. After I'm down to my ideal body weight AND I'm strong, I'll become more concerned with "finishing times" rather than just "finishing". If you're ever interested in giving it a try, let me know and I can hook you up with some great people. Most of them are in OH & KY, but I plan on meeting new people each race!
